Kelty Hearts welcome Edinburgh University to New Central Park this Saturday for the first Lowland League tie of the 2020-21 Season

The home side are coming off a 2-1 defeat against Premiership Side St Johnston in the Bet Fred cup. Kelty will be happy with the performance on the night, looking respectable throughout and never out of place.

The Visitors play their first  university side play their first competitive fixture in almost 9 months. The Uni have a a tough run of games to start their season facing East Stirlingshire midweek followed by Lowland League newcomers Bo’ness a week on Saturday.

Head to Head

Kelty and Edinburgh Uni will meet for the fourth time in League action as the Kelty Jambos look to get the season off to a flyer.

Last time out Kelty came away with all 3 points in the third league encounter between the two sides. Despite early pressure from the home side it was the visitors who went in front early when the ball fell to Edinburgh’s Watters who knocked it past Mackenzie with his first touch. Kelty then went on to take a 2-1 lead after Easton found space in the box on two occasions to get a brace ahead of the half time break.

An Austin header opened the scoring in the second half shortly followed by a second for Austin to put the home side up 4-1. Finding space and reacting quickly it was Cammy Russell who got Kelty’s fifth of the night before Austin found the back of the net to net his hat trick for the game. Linton tied the game up from the spot to award Kelty all 3 points on the day.

Last 3 Meetings:

Kelty Hearts                7 – 1    Edinburgh University

Edinburgh University 1 – 3    Kelty Hearts

Kelty Hearts                2 – 2   Edinburgh University

Players to Watch

Dylan Easton scored twice against the visitors in the last meeting between the two sides and Fergusson will be looking for a similar performance this weekend, especially with the uncertainty around prolific goal scorer Austin ahead of the League opener.

Easton was Kelty’s third top scorer last season with 11 goals in the league, he’s had a strong preseason scoring Kelty’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Stenhousemuir before putting in a good performance midweek in the Bet Fred Cup.

We caught up with Dylan last weekend. Listen to what he had to say HERE.
