A familiar setting for midweek football awaits on Tuesday as we head to Ainslie Park to take on an inform Spartans.
Kelty will head to the capital on the back of a clinical 7-0 win at home to Gretna 2008 on Saturday. Goals from Higginbotham (x2), Austin (x3), Flynn and Easton helped Kelty to their 10th win of the season. Saturdays win gives Kelty a cushion at the top of the Lowland League as they now sit four points clear of Bonnyrigg Rose and East Kilbride.
Spartans proved yet again a formidable side at home as they knocked East Kilbride out the Scottish Cup in the Second Preliminary Round on Saturday. A late Scott Maxwell penalty was the difference as Spartans booked their place in the First Round of the Scottish Cup. In league business the Edinburgh side have begun to build up some momentum after a Shanley start to the season picking up wins in their last four outings.
Head to Head
Tuesday will mark the seventh time the two sides have met and the fifth in league action. Spartans have won three of the six meetings and on one occasion the spoils were shared. Kelty have won the last two times the sides have met.
Kelty have won only once in four trips to Ainslie Park, that win coming in league action shortly before the 2019-20 Season was brought to a sudden halt. A Dylan Easton effort was the difference as Kelty ran out 1-0 winners on route to a first Lowland League Title
Players to Watch
Thomas Reilly has put in back-to-back Man of the Match performances in Kelty’s last two wins, a 4-0 away win over Berwick and in Saturdays 7-0 win over Gretna.
Reilly recently strapped on the Captains armband after fellow central midfielder Michael Tidser was side lined ahead of the Gala Fairydean Rovers. Since then Reilly appears to have completely settled into his role in a still very recently assembled team creating chances and controlling the pace of the game throughout.
Against an experienced Spartans side playing in form, and at home, the partnership of Reilly and Tidser in the centre of the park could dictate how Tuesdays Lowland League Tie goes.
